The Queen was built as an upper-middle class home in the 1890s in Queen Anne style, the newest of the Victorian styles. Sometime in the 1930s or 1940s it was "modernized" by conversion of one of its eight fireplaces to gas, the removal of its pocket doors and their replacement with smaller French doors, and the removal and addition of several walls to change room configurations. Elaborate detail in the exterior architecture was hidden under a white coat of paint. The home, at 176 East Linn Street, has been restored to Victorian style as a bed-and-breakfast.
