November 15, 1983
Centre County Courthouse Small Courtroom
Members Present: Cherene Holland, President, Liane Schneeman, Secretary, Tim McDevitt, Jack Yeager, Nancy Noll and son, True Fisher, Melady Klausmeier.
The meeting was called to order at 8:00 p.m. by Cherene.
There was no Treasurer's Report.
This was a brief meeting, centering an the upcoming Victorian Ball. Some ideas re. entertainment and organization were discussed.
Jack Yeager proposed that BHCA provide the hosts who would greet people
at the door -- perhaps a butler, some costumed members who would greet guests and show them to the coatroom, ticket takers etc. Members should take turns in doing these jobs, since it was felt that everyone attending should pay. Lisa Peters offered to take charge of the coatroom.
Some other suggestions for entertainment; reading poetry, perhaps some communal dancing (square dancing) and a song by Jack Yeager. The details still need to be worked out.
The price of tickets has been set at $25.00 per couple, $15.00 for singles.
Nancy Noll suggested that we should engage a photographer, who would take pictures of guests on a commission basis (the going rate today is $10.00. Liane Schneeman suggested Mary Armstrong. An area of the space would have to be set aside for this project. Melady mentioned that arrangements had already been made for a photographer to take pictures. No final decision on this was made.
A decorating committee was set up. Tim McDevitt agreed to be in charge.
Ann Jacobs agreed to coordinate the refreshments and make the necessary arrangements.
Lisa Peters reported-that she has not found any samples of Victorian dancing cards. It was agreed, however, that the tickets and dancing cards (if we use them) should have the same design. Cherene volunteered to find someone to design the tickets. Ann Stevens should be approached, or perhaps Joan Blasko.
Melady reported that negotiations with the management of the Nittany Country Club are not going well at this point. It was agreed, however, that this club would best serve our needs, and that every effort should be made to get this facility for the ball. Melady will enlist the help of the downtown merchants.
The next meeting will be held December 13.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:55 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, ,`
Liane Schneeman, Secretary
