Minutes
Meeting of January 28, 2005, 7:30 p.m.
Home of True and Rob Fisher
228 N. Allegheny St., Bellefonte
Meeting was called to order at 8 p.m. by Romayne Naylor, President.
Present: Romayne Naylor, Dave Eggler (Treasurer), Kevin Musick, Jim Dunne, Gay Dunne, Sharon McCarthy, Rob Fisher, True Fisher, Mark Van Horn, Susan Nicholas Gephart, David Conboy, Michelle Montes, Dave Kurtz, Holly Fritchman, Bob Fenichel, Donna Rochon, Jack Lafond, Helen Bechdel, Kitty Wunderly (Arts Administrator).
1. Introductions/ Review of Minutes, meeting of November 12, 2004. All present introduced themselves and were welcomed. Sharon moved to accept the minutes as written; seconded by Gay; unanimously approved.
2. Treasurer’s report (end of webpage)
Copies of the financial report as of 1/28/05 were distributed. Dave pointed out that Victorian Christmas 2004 Arts & Crafts Show had net proceeds of $1,597. Jim moved to accept the treasurer’s report; seconded by Gay; unanimously approved.
3. Arts Administrator’s report.
Kitty asked if a follow-up fund-raising letter should be considered, in part because so many addresses used on the fall 2004 mailing proved to be bad and were returned by the post office. Romayne said that a mailing with a “Spring theme” probably would be a good idea.
4. Committee Reports:
a. Gallery at the Gamble Mill: Jim reported that the opening reception for “A Natural Focus” was very well- attended – 75-100 people – and three works were sold in the course of the evening. That show will hang until April 22, and be followed by “Art of the Bellefonte Schools,” a Pastel Society group show, and one other 2005 show still being negotiated. A lengthy discussion followed regarding possible upgrading of the current black-and-white postcards to color, perhaps by using one of the companies operating through the Internet. No formal proposal was made, Michelle and others on the Mill Committee will look into some possible companies/prices/etc.
f. Sunday Afternoon at the Library: The Dan Yoder Jazz Quintet will perform Feb. 13.
5. Old Business:
No old business.
6. New Business/Announcements:
a. “Dance Centre County!” organized by VanDance Inc. of State College received a small grant from the Centre County Community Foundation under BHCA’s auspices. It will be held February 5 at Bellefonte Elementary School.
b. Kitty passed around a brochure from the Pa. Humanities Council on the Commonwealth Speakers program. This program provides speakers on a variety of topics – arts, history, culture – free, with some funding available from the PHC to cover advertising costs. Groups wanting a speaker must file an application well in advance, and agree to certain obligations in regard to advertisng, possibly housing the speaker overnight, guaranteed audience, etc. The program interested many of the attendees but no definite plans were made to participate.
c. Dave Kurtz said that the Mach I slalom team may have a fund-raising dinner with an auction and invited BHCA members to participate.
d. Kitty said that Jackie Melander, president of the Centre County Historical Society, has said that CCHS members will be coming to Bellefonte at some point to tour the match factory, and asked if BHCA would like to join in the event and perhaps do a presentation about its Bellefonte projects. Everyone agreed to accept this invitation.
e. True mentioned the upcoming community meetings scheduled for the Bellefonte Visioning Project: from 7-9 p.m. on Feb. 8, March 8, April 12, and May 17, all in the elementary school auditorium.
f. Dave Conboy broached the idea of an “artists in the park” invitational exhibition, perhaps in conjunction with the Summer Sounds concerts. Artists would set up and the public could observe and ask questions. All skill levels would be welcome to participate. Attendees were enthusiastic about this idea.
g. Romayne asked what the BHCA brochure supply was like. Kitty said that there are hundreds remaining from the printing of a few years ago. She has been amending the incorrect e-mail address on them with sticky labels as needed.
Next meeting: not scheduled
Adjournment: Jim moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:26 p.m., seconded by True, unanimously agreed.
Respectfully submitted,
Kitty Wunderly, Arts Administrator
