Minutes of Past Meetings
Minutes Friday, October 8, 2010
Location: Home of Gay & Jim Dunne, 222 N. Allegheny St., Bellefonte
Attendance: JoAnn Knupp (President), Dave Eggler (Treasurer), Dick Knupp, True Fisher, Ann Stitzer, Gay & Jim Dunne (Secretary), Mary McMurtrie (Arts Administrator)
Minutes (5/21/10): Dave Eggler and Laura Goss were present at the 5/21/10 meeting. Minutes approved as amended (Gay, Jim).
Treasurer’s Report (Eggler, below): The Garver Fund did not award Summer Sounds a grant for 2010-2011. They told us to apply again next year. Summer Sounds lost ~$900 for the calendar year. We earned $204 from the Barnes & Noble Bookfair on June 25-27. We received $1154 from PCA for the Arts Administrator, down from the previous year.. Dave suggested Vanguard Bond Funds as a repository for some of our investment funds based in part on the low interest rate of our savings and CD investments.. The treasurer’s request to examine alternate investments was approved with the suggestion to review the situation in January when the investments mature (True, Ann). The Treasurer’s report was approved (Gay, Mary).
Sunday Afternoons at the Library (SAL) (J. Dunne): Jim presented a budget for the 2010-11 season and requested funding from BHCA. A donation of $1000 will be made to cover part of the costs.
Publicity $736
CDT - $350
Postcards , Fall & Spring - $200
Bulk Mail $186
Performers $1300
Library Staff $160
Piano Maintenance $40
Total Expenses $2236
Donation $1000
BHCA Expense $1236
After discussion, a motion to approve the SAL proposal was accepted (Dave, True)
The first concert will be the Nittany Wind Quintet on Nov. 7 @ 2:30 PM in the Library.
Gallery at the Gamble Mill (J. Dunne): The Carol Goldberg Retrospective , September 18 - December 17, had an opening reception September 28. It was well attended.
Summer Sounds (Joann): Only one of the 2 rock bands scheduled actually performed this summer. The committee is not inclined to consider that music form next year for Summer Sounds. They suggested a chairperson to arrange future rock concerts independent from Summer Sounds, but sponsored by BHCA. Organization for next summer will begin in February.
Victorian Christmas: Sally Houser’s proposal for this year included expanding the Arts & Crafts Show to the Middle School, and including non-profits & church groups at that venue at no cost. The general feeling was that there would not be enough vendors to completely fill the Y and the Elementary School gym. The Elementary School has a handicapped entrance that will be made available, which should aid access to the gym for vendors and the public. BHCA has agreed to provide our mailing labels to HBI for invitations to a fund raising gala to be held at the Match Factory as part of Victorian Christmas. Jim will supply the labels. A motion to fulfil that request was approved (Jim, Dave).
HBI will have a 2 page advertisement in the Centre County Visitors Bureau Visitors Guide. BHCA will have an 1/8 page section. The cost of the ad is covered by a CCVB grant to HBI.
The HBI Fall Festival will be held in Talleyrand Park on Oct. 24, 1-4 PM. BHCA will have a table manned by BHCA volunteers (Joann, True, Ann Stitzer).
The annual Donation Letter will be written by Dave and illustrated by Jim to ideally be mailed by late October. Mary suggested local companies such as Restek, Supelco, and banks be included.
Joann suggested fund raising ideas: House tours; trolley rides; garage sale which would exclude clothing and consist of antiques & collectibles as much as possilbe. We would need a storage area. We need to get more people involved.
Next Meeting: Friday, November 12, 7 PM, at the Knupp home,
441 N. Spring St., Bellefonte
Respectfully submitted,
James Dunne,
secretary

Notes: (1) Summer Sounds 2010 had income of $1477 and expenses of $2350. (2) Barnes & Noble promotion had income of $204. (3) Most of our funding sources have dried up, so I predict a loss for 2010-2011 of ~$3000. (4) I need a PO account printout from June 1 to date!
