Bellefonte Victorian Christmas (Sally, Romayne) - Sally and Romayne recommend combining the Elementary and Middle School venues into a single venue. It will reduce facility and snow removal expenses. It should increase vendor foot traffic. We need to add a statement to the vendor contract requiring them to leave the show site by 5 PM on Sunday to avoid extra charges from the venue (Middle School). It is recommended that svendors submit applications by September to be listed in the Victorian Christmas Guide. Last year we published a separate vendor brochure to accommodate late applications.
Bylaws - No report. Committee will complete revision soon.
Historic Preservation Committee - Next meeting to be scheduled soon.
Old House Fair - Melady discussed. Her written report to follow.
Poetry (Julia, Colina) - About 15 attended a reading by Geoffrey Godbey at the Bellefonte Art Museum. They are exploring group reading by local poetry writing groups and individual poets on a monthly basis.
Garman Project - Mary has an exhibit at the Bellefonte Art Museum featuring a portion of the Garman stage curtain draped from the wall and along the floor with a monitor in the center, which plays two very poignant videos, one by Mary and one by Peter Warren, her husband. Peter’s video with “We’ll Meet Again” as the theme music can be seen on YouTube. The link is available on the Garman Opera House website (http://www.garmanoperahouse.org/)
There was discussion about The Armory property across from Triangle which the Borough is purchasing as site for arts activities/ regional arts center. The Brachbill building (currently Mattress Warehouse) and the Bellefonte dairy building (also known as the Western Maryland Dairy Company’s Bellefonte Creamery and Sealtest Sheffield Farms building) on N. Thomas street were also proposed as alternative sites.
Old Business:
50th Year Celebration of the Kayak Slalom on Spring Creek- 2014 (Dave Kurtz) Dave would like to involve school students in an art project on the theme “The Art of Paddling” The Gamble Mill Committee could aid by presenting the idea to the Centre County schools art teachers. Dave will prepare a presentation for the teachers. He could give classroom discussions. Melady suggested a talk on the science of paddling. The celebration could be launched at the Big Spring Festival on May 18th at Talleyrand Park. Dave invites participation (d1k@psu.edu).
New Business:
State Theater Discussion: JoAnn relates that Lisa Peters, Chairman of the State Theater Board, would like to discuss collaboration with BHCA. Melady described a group meeting two weeks ago of parties interested in expanding the art scene in Bellefonte. Mary and Joanne T.V. also commented on the same meeting. Keith said that he is interested in a discussion with the State Theater Board.
