September 30, 2016, 7 PM
Train Station
Present: Romayne Naylor, President, Jim Dunne, Secretary, Nancy Miller, Jeanne Newlin, Joseph Griffin, Julia Kasdorf, Phil Ruth, Joanne Tosti-Vasey , Mack Mahan, Melady Kehm, Dave Kurtz, Mack Mahan, Sally Houser, Patrick North, Gay Dunne. A quorum was in attendance as defined by the BHCA bylaws.

Committee Reports
Summer Sounds -
(Nancy Miller) - 2016 saw lots of rain on Sunday evenings. The committee of 5
feels that 11 concerts is too many to handle for the size of their committee.
They are requesting more committee members.
Sunday Afternoons at the Library
– Sundays, 2:30 PM, Historical Museum - The 2016 -7 season is set. First concert
is October 30. See attachment.
Victorian Christmas
(Sally) - The application to use the Bellefonte Senior High School has been
submitted. Entertainment On Saturday 1-2:30 in the middle School cafeteria. The
auditorium may also be a possiblity.
Poetry
(Julia) - Next Program: “Bellefonte Moth” at the Bellefonte Art Museum, Friday,
October 14. The poetry committee of Abby Minor, Teresa Stouffer, Patrick North,
Julia Kasdorf requested BHCA provide an honorarium of $100 for individual
readers. A motion for BHCA to provide a $100 honorarium to the
presenter in a one poet Out Loud presentation (Patrick, Joanne TV) was
approved. Julia discussed a proposal from John Ziegler for a telephone poem
booth. Julia will help with the poem selection.
Old House Fair
(Joseph, Melady, Jeanne), April 28 & 29, 2017 - Plans are well underway for the
2017 event. Ed McMahon is the keynote speaker (http://uli.org/research/senior-resident-fellows/ed-mcmahon/).
Friday will have a theme and feature a more extensive continuing education
program. For Saturday there will be more conference rooms available to
accommodate more people. Twenty-five percent of 2016 attendees returned the
questionnaire.
Historic Preservation
(Jeanne) - The Lock Haven Express had three front page feature articles on
Bellefonte: HBI, BHCA, Hometown Heroes. Joanne TV supplied the photographs for
the BHCA article.
Freight House -
Dave Kurtz, Jeanne and Phil Ruth are working on the materials and layout for the Kayak Museum in the Freight House. Dave will petition Borough Council to allow a demonstration kayak slalom at the High Street bridge on October 21 @ 6 PM.
Curtin Village is planning one program per month during the warmer
months. A committee will work over the winter on an 1850 landscape design.
Curtin Village will be featured on the PSU OLLI program.. They have received a
$16,000 grant from the Central Pennsylvania Convention & Visitors Bureau and
$1000 from the Elks for restoring the outbuilding and its kitchen. High end
kitchen equipment has been donated. Joanne recommended GoFundMe, Kickstarter or
other online fund raiser for further funding.
Talleyrand Park
(True) - (Submitted) Talleyrand Park Committee members are just waiting for word
on a big grant that the Borough has applied for that includes stream bank
restoration and a few other items for the park for next year, and we are working
on signage - a Welcome Sign and an informational sign explaining the historic
fountain. The park will again be on the OLLI program Tuesday, Apr. 25 from 1:30
– 3:30 PM
Destination Bellefonte Marketing Committee
(Sally) -
www.VisitPaAmericana.com
will have 4 tours listed. Starting place will be Knupp’s building. A website is
being constructed. BHCA and other organizations will be asked to contribute.
New Business

RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program of Centre County -

. Brochure distributed. Brief discussion. To be discussed
next meeting.
Nov. 4 is Gamble Mill Bankruptcy court meeting.
We celebrated the 40th anniversary of BHCA with a toast at the end of the
meeting.
