Bellefonte Art Museum


Present: Joseph Griffin, Vice-President, Jim Dunne, Secretary; Melady Kehm, True Fisher, Joanne Tosti-Vasey, Joe Vasey, Jeanne Newlin, Gay Dunne, Philip Ruth, Nancy Perkins, Jeanne Newlin . A quorum was in
attendance as defined by the BHCA bylaws. Joseph Griffin, Vice-President, presided.

Minutes – Minutes of 2018-06-01 were approved.

Treasurer’s Report (Dave Eggler) – Report noted. Click here to read the report.

Old Business - Signs: Bellefonte Borough Sign Ordinance not yet updated. There is a Design Committee of Downtown Bellefonte, Inc. There are two DCED (Pa Dept Of Community & Economic Development) grants submitted with awards to be made in June, 2019.

Summer Sounds (JoAnn Knupp) – No report

Sunday Afternoon Chamber Music Series (Trinity United Methodist Church, Sundays at 2:30 PM): The Centre Brass concert was very well received by a small but enthusiastic audience. Next Concert: Allegheny Winds - Sunday, October 14
 

Poetry (Philip) - Out Loud, Fridays, 7:30 PM at the Bellefonte Art Museum: The September 28 poetry reading by Steve Deutch and Sarah Russell was well attended and well received. Next reading is Friday, October 26 - Erin Murphy, PSU Professor and author reading from her new collection Assisted Living. Julia Kasdorf has published a new poetry volume, Shale Play, to be featured on January 11, 2019.

Old House Fair
(Joseph) - OHF, after three years with gradually declining attendance, was in the black in 2018. For next year they are considering a different format with 4 or 5 workshops spread out over an extended period.

Historic Preservation (Jeanne) - Curtin Village - There were 4 programs over summer. Mark Higgins presented a $1000 donation from the Centre County Government. The State restored the mansion exterior this summer. Next year’s plan is for capital improvement and membership. Jeanne discussed the Wilber Fiske Reeder House at 430 N. Allegheny St. A descendant of that family will be in town on October 29.

Talleyrand Park (True) – A brick fund raiser is planned for the brick walk extension to the future RR pedestrian bridge.. The pergola rebuilding, the west bank mudsill, the walk from High St. to the raceway cover and planting replacement trees in the sculpture garden are completed or in progress.

New Business – Dave Kurtz : last slalom for the year is October 7.

Next BHCA Meeting - 7 PM Friday, November 9, at the Train Station.
