Present: Romayne Naylor, President, Joseph Griffin, Vice-President, Jim Dunne, Secretary; Dave Eggler,Treasurer, Melady Kehm, True Fisher, Joanne TostiVasey, Nancy Perkins, Jeanne Newlin, Gay Dunne, Philip Ruth, JoAnn Knupp. Mack Mahan, Kathy Wilson, Karen Arnold. A quorum was in attendance as defined by the BHCA bylaws.

 

Presentation - Doug Meyer gave an interesting presentation about a proposed Nittany Performing Arts Center.

Old Business - (Nancy Perkins) Some of the newly installed signs could be dangerous to the visually impaired. If BHCA were a sponsor of the signs, ithere could be liable for injuries. Since the signs were proposed and implemented independent of BHCA, a motion to repeal the use of the BHCA 501(c)(3) for the signs was approved (Jeanne, Melady).

 

Committee Reports

Summer Sounds (JoAnn Knupp) – Poster ready and will be available @ May 18. Cards will be mailed late May.

Poetry (Julia) - Poem in Pocket was well attended.

Friday, May 18, 2018 at 6 p.m. Being Heard - Centre Crest residents read their poetry.


            Old House Fair (Joseph) - June 8,9, 2018. Anne Gadwa Nicodemus is a researcher, writer, speaker, and advocate for the intersection of arts and community development referred to as Creative       Placemaking. She will be the keynote speaker. Others: Leonardo Vazquez, Creative placemaker, urban planner, educator, author, leadership coach; Micah Gursky: Community Partnership, Tamaqua; plus local people.

 

Historic Preservation (Jeanne) - Nancy working on a model of the freight house. Jim attended a lecture on Centre County Railroad History by Michael Bezilla. Part of the lecture is in a PDF file

(centrecountypa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/487). Curtin Village opens June 1. Several programs are planed for the summer. Jeanne is in possession of a 90 page 1979 document listing appropriate furnishing room by room for the Curtin Mansion. Katy Colby and Joseph will interview local

residents for the Old House Fair Facebook page.

 

Talleyrand Park (True) – Projects planned: West bank mud sill; railroad extension bridge. Brick walk extension to the rr bridge, pergola repair; yarn balming
 

New Business – Walking Tour maps to be reprinted. Big Spring Festival, May 12. Concert June 3 at Trinity United Methodist Church Noon: David and Hyunju Curtin,pianists

 

Next BHCA Meeting - 7 PM Friday, June 1, at the Bellefonte Art Museum (confirmed)
